Hi!
This is a new biweekly series where I’ll share some juicy goods about Tavern Hours.
(What? I haven’t mentioned Tavern Hours? Imagine office hours, but much cooler, where authors gather and beat the living daylights out of plot holes and writer’s block. It’s awesome, every other Monday! Come join us at the LegendFiction community!)
Anyway, every time we have Tavern Hours, I’m going to take a cool tidbit and share it here.
I just have one problem.
Literally no one showed up. 😅
Crickets.
And that’s okay!
I was surprised because we had a big crowd the first time, and the second time, I sat in an empty Google Meets for an hour. BUT—that’s not to say it was a waste of time. It wasn’t. I sat there, relaxed, answered some emails that I had been putting off, did some social media work with my audience, wrote part of a book, and learned that I need to, you know, actually let people know that this is happening every two weeks 😁.
So, the tidbit I have for you: just because what you had in mind doesn’t happen, doesn’t mean nothing has happened.
Let’s say you release a new story on your blog and get…
…crickets.
It doesn’t get the response you were expecting. That doesn’t mean nothing happened. You got to get another awesome story off your chest, you practiced your craft, you learned how to do better next time, you made something amazing, and hey, someone is going to enjoy it.
Enjoy the moment of less stress. Take notes for how to continue on toward your goal. And enjoy the process, not only the rigid result you envisioned.
When life gives you crickets, listen to them sing.
(P.S. My name’s Gabriella Batel, and it’s lovely to meet you. I’m a YA thriller and dark fantasy author, and a pretty coven-worthy editor, so if you’re interested in either of those, come check me out! https://www.gabriellabatel.com/ )
Sorry I missed Hope to make the next one
