Wanderies: The Explorers & Magicians
Guides of Frontiers, Pilgrims of Wonder, Storytellers of the Hidden Realms
The Wanderies walk beneath skies most never see. Their souls are tuned to horizons, forever restless in the presence of mystery. They move between worlds, stone and spirit, waking and dream, real and imaginal, charting maps across dreamscapes, story-lands, and the great unknown of their own souls.
They live as if reality itself were a veil, thin and trembling, waiting to be lifted to reveal the bride of our hearts. With the heart of an explorer, the mind of a sage, and the spirit of an innocent, everything is a frontier. They step forward where others hesitate, bearing lanterns into caverns of unknowing.
Their attention is a wand: wherever they turn it, reality shimmers with new possibility. Their gift is wonder, sharp and inexhaustible; their danger is to wander without arriving, to mistake fascination for wisdom, and mirage for revelation.
Their shadow is the endless road. They may become addicted to wandering for its own sake, hoarding marvels, but never calling out the meaning. The danger is to float untethered, drinking stars but never bringing water home. Their shadow whispers: Why land when the sky is endless? Why return when the road goes ever on and on?
The world needs their stories to awaken wonder, to stretch our imaginations, and to remind us that mystery itself is a frontier worth exploring.

The Signs of a Wandery in Daily Life
In daily life: They are collectors of signs, keepers of journals, dreamers who pause in the middle of errands to notice the pattern of clouds or the hush in a room. They are prone to drift, losing hours in reverie or research. Curious, contemplative, and always on the lookout for signs and patterns others miss.
In writing: Their stories are pilgrimages into the strange, fantasy, myth, science fiction, and beyond. They delight in journeys across impossible landscapes, in protagonists who slip the leash of the ordinary. Their words shimmer with worlds that brim with magic, mystery, and hidden wisdom.
In spirit: They believe stories exist to reveal the hidden face of the cosmos. To them, imagination is not idle fancy, but a compass. Their writing is both map and lantern, a means of guiding others toward the patterns of meaning that underlie all things.
The Stories They Recognize
Alice (Alice in Wonderland): She falls into strangeness with courage unspoiled, curiosity as her guide.
Gandalf (The Lord of the Rings): Wanderer and wise one, walking unseen paths, offers counsel that creates courage, guiding others to choose the hard road themselves.
Moana (Moana): She heeds the call of horizons her people fear, trusting the ocean to reveal her destiny.
Neo (The Matrix): He awakens to the hidden lattice within the world, daring to walk between realities.
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter): Her devotion to knowledge makes her a discoverer of truths others dismiss.
Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit): Pulled from comfort into the great wide road, his smallness becomes the soil of greatness.
Belle (Beauty and the Beast): Her yearning beyond the provincial life makes her a pilgrim of imagination.
Mr. Miyagi (The Karate Kid): Hides wisdom inside ritual and chores, shaping character before technique.
Yoda (Star Wars): Reasons throughs riddles to challenge others, since wisdom will not be grasped, but requires invitation to be seen.
The Hunger and the Shadow
The Wanderies hunger for revelation, to push open the secret doors of reality and return with its mysterious meaning. But this hunger twists into shadow when they settle for shallow wonder, fleeing the work of weaving truth into living. They risk losing themselves in endless novelty, mistake endless questions for true knowing, escaping reality into imagination rather than deepening it.
Enter the House
House Wanderies belongs to those who live with starlight in their blood and frontiers in their bones. Their soul-symbol is the flowering wand, that slender beam of attention that turns the ordinary radiant. Their inheritance is the great lineage of pilgrims, sages, and dream-walkers who crossed into mystery and returned with fire in their hands. Their defining image is the star-strewn sky—an endless frontier above, at once vast and guiding.
The Summons at the House Gate
You who feel the tug of far frontiers, whose heart quickens at the scent of rain on unknown earth, hear this: you were not made to stay still. The ache you carry is not restlessness, it is your birthright. You were fashioned for roads without end, for skies that open like scripture, for mysteries that yield only to wonder.
The world would have you settle, to silence your questions, to live as if patient awe were childish. Do not believe them. The spark in your chest is no accident, it is a summons. To wander is to become yourself. To marvel is your discipline. To cross thresholds into strangeness is your courage. To return bearing light for others is your honor.
Take up your wand of attention, your eagle of witness. Step onto the road that calls you by name. Do not fear getting lost, you are the path. Do not fear never arriving, you are the arrival on a pilgrimage. House Wanderies waits to give you more than direction: to awaken what has always been true: you are the pilgrim of wonder, the discoverer of worlds with out end.
The Three Trials
The Trial of Greening Silence: Learn to spend time in encounter with creation, until ordinary things blaze with hidden fire. Most live deaf to the words of the world, assuming that nothing heard means nothing said. Pass and the very silence becomes a welcome and a warning.
The Trial of the Coracle: Walk winding paths without despair, and flip a coin at a crossroads, trusting that chance is a choice made by eternal love, and all roads lead to home. Dine with the living, and be wary the ghosts of the glimmering dead.
The Trial of Return: To slip between the slats of the world and enter an undiscovered country is only the beginning. Forage the fruit, trace the wilderness, and then return to the havens of friends and family, lest you stay lost in the wonder. Those who fail grow grim and bloated with splendor. Those who press back through the mirror bring the wildfruits to heal.
The Vows
I vow to live well the days, to number them not as shadows, but as songs.
I vow to begin the story again and again, to tell of how great a love can be, a love that calls me beyond the world.
I vow to chase the impossible dream, to seek the far-off star, to bear the unbearable sorrow, to run where the brave dare not go, to seek just one more lost friend.
I vow to believe when belief falters, to wait for the unseen, for there can be miracles when you believe, and somehow you will.
I vow to walk in the air, to rise on wings of awe, to carry light across the dark waters, and return with fire for those who follow.
I vow to keep turning corners, seeking the new road or secret gate, tuning my face to the hidden paths of the greening world, where at the end of all things, the love I bear makes night beautiful.
The Mark of the House
From this day, the signs and patrons of Wandery are yours, as they ever were:
Stars: The night’s braille, a roof-road of worlds and doors to befriend.
Wand: The narrowed beam of attention that calls the mundane to reveal its miracle smile.
Pegasus: When the heart finds her wings, distance becomes a doorway.
Lantern: The light you find becomes lighthouse for others to see the paths you’ve walked.
Eagle: High patience circling, seeking the whole sight and pattern.
Your patrons are these heroes of the Wandery Way:
Hildegard of Bingen: She heard the world’s green-fire breathing, and the visions flowered in her life through song and sense.
Brendan the Navigator: He set his coracle on trackless sea, trusting Providence to lift new islands out of fog.
Bonaventure: He mapped the mind’s ascent to God like switchbacks up a dawn-lit mountain.
Joseph of Cupertino: When awe took his heart, his body followed, proof that wonder can unshackle even gravity.
Albert the Great: He read creation like a scholar’s manuscript, finding God’s fingerprints in beetle wing and star.
Columbanus: A pilgrim with a lion-hearted psalter, he planted monasteries like waystones across the wild.
Kateri Tekakwitha: A woman who walked two worlds, and made impossible decisions to keep her encounter with Christ alive within her identity and traditions.
Francis of Assisi: He read creation as a gospel in leaf and lark, walking free so that Wisdom could reveal what the world needed.
Bernard of Clairvaux: In the forests of contemplation, he trailed honeyed sermons from the Song of Songs.
Faustina Kowalska: Secretary of Mercy, an ocean broke through her diaried conversations, and she poured it into the world.
A Wandery Prayer
O Maker of ways and weather, set my soles to the long track.
Give me starcraft, not stargazing; a compass steadier than thrill.
Let my attention be a wand that wakes the world to speak.
Keep me from mistaking mist for mountain, mirage for meaning.
Teach me the law of return: to come back with cupped fire and share it.
Lend me the lantern that does not hoard its light, even in wind.
Grant me eagle-sight to hold the wide pattern, and sparrow-heart to love the small.
When the road is labyrinth, braid me a thread of patient joy.
When silence falls, make it fertile; may its stillness reveal guidance.
May my pages be waymarks, my stories clear water for the thirsty.
And when I reach the white shores of the swift sunrise,
send me again—glad-footed—to guide another pilgrim home.
Motto
“Further up and further in, since not all who wander are lost.”
The Final Charge
Wanderer, you are not lost. You are not drifting, you are discovering. You walk to escape the grey decor, to reveal the dawn splendor. The stars above you are more than maps, they are havens. The world waits for your return. Carry light across the dark waters. Return with fire cupped in your hands. Write the maps that others cannot lose. You are a pilgrim of wonder, a discoverer of worlds, and your stories are the bridges by which others will cross.
Welcome legend, to House Wanderies.
