Stephanie Petters is an author and creator of Of Wood and Word. She shares her journey of creative writing from fifth grade, through college and her discernment process. She wrote a book of poems imaginatively retelling the lives of saints, ‘Fools for Heaven’, available on Amazon. Her newest project is ‘To Eden’, a fictional poem about Saint Brendan’s journey to find the lost Garden of Eden.

Stephanie was inspired to write fiction from early on. She entered a local writing contest in high school and was rejected, which taught her to work harder and fine-tune her craft. Rejection by multiple publishers for her children’s book caused her to doubt her abilities as a writer. So she decided to self-publish.

She shares her story of surprising success in launching a Kickstarter to fund her first book. She feared competition from another children’s book on Kickstarter that had been fully funded in 24 hours. Stephanie did the unexpected, and reached out to the other author. They became colleagues rather than competitors. Find out what happened, and why she loves to focus on a revival of poetry!

Stephanie Petters is the founder behind Of Wood and Word. She’s a cradle Catholic born and raised in Miami, FL. She became a Navy wife in 2019 and now hops around the country with her husband and two future saints. Currently resides in Jacksonville, FL where she spends her days writing down rhymes during nap times. She’s a former Master’s student in Theology and loves incorporating everything she learns into her writing. Her newest project is, ‘To Eden’, and hoping to network with other faith and fiction lovers through it!
