Plan Your Novel: Define the Character Arc, An Online Workshop with Katelin Cummins
In this ninety-minute workshop, you will dig into who your protagonist is, what they want, and how they change. You will also determine who is telling their story and how, and pinpoint your beginning and ending scenes.
The protagonist and how they change provides the heart and meaning to any story. As readers, we love to get inside the character’s head and experience the story along with them, caring about their journey.
To effectively provide this experience to readers, we need to look closely at our protagonist: who they are, what they want, what stands in their way, and how they change. We also need to make choices about the point of view of the narration, where to start the story, and where to end it. Whether you are fleshing out a story idea, in the middle of writing, or working on revisions, taking a moment to look closely at your protagonist and your narrative choices will help you make your story stronger.
In this ninety-minute workshop, you will
Dig into who your protagonist is, what they want, and how they change
Determine who is telling their story and how
Pinpoint your beginning and ending scenes
There will be opportunities to share about and discuss your stories in the group and receive coaching on your work.
This workshop uses steps eight through eleven of The Blueprint for a Book by Jennie Nash, founder of Author Accelerator. The complete Blueprint outlines fourteen steps to plan your novel from the inside out. You do not need to have completed the earlier Blueprint steps to attend this workshop and find it useful.

Testimonials from Katelin's previous workshop
"I came into this workshop filled with self-doubts about my novel. But Katelin's guidance, encouraging feedback, and astute questions helped dispel my doubts and left me feeling greater confidence in the story I wanted to tell. I would recommend Katelin's workshops to writers at any level." - Thomas Salerno
"I've always had a hard time summarizing the point of my stories without going into a lot of detail. This workshop was helpful not only in getting to that core point, but also in sharing with others and seeing how different our stories are. Also, the day after I took this workshop, someone in my critique group asked what the main point of my story was. The timing could not have been better!" - Zephyr Thomas
