No Fees, Real Feedback, and You Keep Your Rights: 9 Reasons LegendFiction Outshines Other Anthologies (IMO)
What are LegendFiction Anthologies?
LegendFiction Anthologies are community-powered collections designed to help writers grow. Whether you’re a high school student or an adult, our anthologies give you a chance to sharpen your craft, share your voice, and get published—all while receiving feedback from professional editors.
Every submission is reviewed by a mentor—someone who’s part of the community, not just a faceless gatekeeper. This personal touch helps emerging writers feel seen, guided, and supported. Plus, you keep 100% of your copyrights.
We believe so strongly in helping writers succeed that we cover all production costs through book sales, not submission fees. You write. We publish. You get to say, “I’m a published author.”

How It Works (Pitches, Submissions, Timeline)
Read each contest’s details carefully. Each anthology is unique. The submissions process stays consistent.
Story Pitch: Submit your story pitch through our private form (on the anthology page) before/by the Pitch deadline. If your pitch is accepted, we will ask you to write and submit your story.
Story Submission: You retain all your story copyrights. That’s why we recommend you 1) post your story on your blog, 2) post it in as an Article in our Stories space inside LegendFiction , or 3) Share a Google doc. (No other format allowed.)
Story themes are limited to PG-13 YA fiction. No extremely mature content.
No fan fiction. Your creative world may be similar to your favorite series, but must have original content.
Up to 3 pitches can be submitted for review. Only 1 story submission per author per anthology.
Accepted stories (and possibly honorable mentions) get published in a fiction anthology, to be made available on Kindle and Amazon.
Our system is built around growth. From the Short Story Checklist to review criteria, everything is framed to help writers improve—not just get published once, but level up for future work.
Anthologies are designed by our volunteer team. Proceeds from sales go toward compensating them and covering platform costs—so we can keep supporting authors without charging anthology submission fees.
What We Look For (Story Standards)
After the deadline, the LegendFiction team of mentors will read through and identify all entries that:
Best follow the published contest requirements
Are well crafted according to our Short Story Checklist
Respond well to feedback for change requests
We read all submissions ‘anonymously,’ meaning name, membership status, and past expertise does not influence our decision on the merit of your entry.
All stories are reviewed by a LegendFiction mentor. We only accept stories that best follow our content and contest guidelines.
We will alert you via email if you are accepted or declined for publication.
LegendFiction mentors usually include their stories in the anthology.
Feedback & Editing
As of July 2025, we no longer provide individualized feedback or editing notes on every submission.
Stories submitted by the deadline will be accepted or declined based on their overall strength and readiness. All stories will be line edited before being published. Because this is on a volunteer basis, the editor will not consult the author for every change, and will not be able to make any personalized changes after publication.
Members can opt to purchase extended editorial feedback, gaining two additional weeks in the submission process to refine their story and strengthen their writing craft.
Our editors help guide the development of each piece to reach its fullest potential in keeping with the author’s vision.
Preference is naturally given to stories with solid storytelling structure, well constructed and written, and consistent with the published LegendFiction vision, as determined by the LegendFiction team, in their sole but reasonable discretion.
Copyright & Publication Rights
Stories are reviewed before publication in an anthology by a mentor. This does not mean that we endorse or approve of all content contributed, or endorse activity by our contributors on other websites. All opinions from our contributors are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of LegendFiction, its mentors, or other contributors.
Your work is automatically protected under Copyright Law as soon you put it into a fixed format, like writing it down.
If you believe your work has been copied improperly, you can submit a takedown request and we will immediately investigate to remove the infringing work.
Publication in the LegendFiction community or anthologies is no cost to you. You keep your copyright, but you’re allowing us to use your content too. By submitting your story to a contest, you are granting LegendFiction a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, distribute, and display your submission in connection with the contest and its promotion, including but not limited to publication in print or digital format, on websites, social media platforms, and any other promotional materials. You retain all copyright and other intellectual property rights in your submission.
By submitting your story, you affirm that you have the legal right to grant the aforementioned license and that your submission does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third party. Furthermore, you agree that LegendFiction shall not be obligated to pay you any compensation, now or in the future, for the use of your submission as described.
Content Guidelines (PG-13, religious content, etc.)
Our community is for high school students through adults, and as such, general content – like anthologies – should be free of swearing, smut, and gore.
LegendFiction is a community that values entertaining and challenging stories, in English.
Contributors are expected to follow guidelines on copyrighted content, zero spam, no NSFW content, and few formatting errors. LegendFiction does not endorse or approve of all content contributed, and we have a zero-tolerance policy against trolls and toxic behavior.
The community welcomes religious themes, but not evangelistic fiction or shaming language. Graphic content, hate speech, and glorification of self-harm are not acceptable.
LegendFiction believes that stories exist to entertain, to charm and challenge. While stories and authors can be on a mission to share a serious message, it should never be preachy.
Religious themes
Overtly religious stories are welcome – but we are not seeking evangelistic fiction. We understand that every person seeks their perception of the truth along their journey toward truth – which is how we treat our characters.
Fictional characters in can of course be religious, and we welcome stories and conversations that discuss religious living and themes. We do not welcome content intended to shame or divide members, or groups within the world.
We encourage writers seeing mature discernment, who understand the need for nuance, and who wrestle with the realities of our modern world.
Graphic Content
Graphic depictions of violence, sexuality, or strong language are not appropriate for contest submissions, or for sharing in our general community. Mature themes are welcome, but within a relatively family-friendly context. We get that not every story should be for all ages.
Shaming language, glorification of self-harm, or hate speech of any kind will be rejected.
