The Call to Adventure starts with a choice. Like Luke Skywalker finding that message from Leia, you’re being called to something bigger. Don’t ignore it. Embrace it. This is where your journey begins.
“Destiny has summoned the hero and transferred his [or her] spiritual center of gravity from within their society to a zone unknown... The herald…is often dark, loathly, or terrifying, judged evil by the world; yet if one could follow, the way would be opened through the walls of day into the dark where the jewels glow." - Joseph Campbell
Your current situation might be comfortable, but it’s holding you back. Remember Luke stuck on Tatooine? You’ve got to slow down and see the grind so that you're ready to break free.
"We begin, as all protagonists must, exactly where we already are, enmeshed in the life we know. It’s imperfect—and so are we. But if we don’t wake up to that imperfection, we stay trapped in a status quo that grinds us down." - Eric Clayton
Now you’re stepping into the unknown with a mentor by your side. Think Yoda on Dagobah—it's weird, it’s tough, but this is where real growth happens.
"We have answered the call to adventure and are in the company of a wise mentor. We are challenged—both by the mentor and by a new world we had hardly dared imagine."
- Eric Clayton
This is where it gets real. Luke faces Vader, and everything changes. You’ll hit your lowest point, but how you respond will define your path forward.
"Despite our heroic progress and the journey thus far, tragedy strikes. We are forced to look squarely at our own necessary limitations and mourn loss and suffering—and make a choice." - Eric Clayton
After an adventure, you come out stronger, wiser, ready to change the world—or at least your own. Just like Luke returns as a Jedi, you’ll be ready to make an impact with what you’ve learned. One this is for sure. You'll never be the same again.
"We emerge from the darkness reformed and remade and eager to share with our community all that we have learned. From our own experience, we know it is possible to remake the status quo—and so we set out to do exactly that." - Eric Clayton
Plus, Eric is hosting 2 meetups for science fiction fans! See the convention schedule
